welcome to guerrilla art school w/ Uncle Trez

guerrilla

1) a member of a small independent group taking part in irregular fighting, typically against larger regular forces.

2) referring to actions or activities performed in an impromptu way, often without authorization.

The word guerrilla comes from Spanish, meaning "little war."

Hello, my name is Trez. I teach 3D and 2D art for video game development at Calgary's Bow Valley College. I have also been a professional artist in the video game industry since 2014, and an illustrator and graphic designer in various other industries, since, oh, ye olden days of 2001 or so.

I created this program because:

  • there is a lack of clear, practical art instruction AND art career guidance in most colleges and universities
  • most of them either put you in six figures of debt OR don't get you any closer to being employable, OR both
  • the fastest I have ever leveled up my art skills was with professional mentorship
  • the college I teach at doesn't provide enough time in a semester to really confer a proper understanding of art fundamentals
  • to me, art is a way of life and a way of being. it has never, and will never, begin and end at an employable skill. it is important to me to convey that amidst all the standard curriculum stuff
